Natural sources of nutrients are superior to synthetics. Natural vitamin C, beta-carotenes and vitamin E are good examples with significant supporting research, although most card-carrying nutritionists deny such differences in spite of the evidence.

The relative lack of degenerative disease in wild populations of animals or humans is further proof. For example, a study in the 1930's of over 600 cats conducted by Pottenger revealed that cats fed heat-processed foods suffered a wide range of diseases that intensified with each generation, thus revealing even a genetic effect. Skeletal, metabolic, reproductive, behavioral and dentofacial problems escalated in the processed-food groups, but were absent in the animals fed raw, whole foods. The calcium content in femurs of the raw-food group, for example, was double that in the processed-food group.

The worldwide observations of Weston Price in the 1930's demonstrated a similar effect in humans. Wherever he was able to examine pre-modernized populations, he found the same results. Degeneration occurred wherever modern nutritional practices touched "wild" society. Those on the fringes, in contact with modern civilization, experienced health decline - kind of like a dirty bathtub ring.

The relative absence of degenerative diseases (including dentofacial problems, cancer, adult-onset diabetes, obesity, behavioral and social aberrations, arthritis, atherosclerosis, Alzheimer's disease, various autoimmunities and the like) from pre-Industrial populations is strong evidence that we are fouling our own nest and paying a heavy price. Medical care, a trillion plus dollar annual industry, is a major consumer of our gross national product. The grand illusion is to believe that just because technology can lengthen the time it takes for us to die, that we are healthier.
