Margarine Poisoning
Margarine was developed as a cheap alternative to butter and a solution to the mistaken notion that fat and cholesterol cause heart disease. To make liquid vegetable oil solid so that it can mimic butter, it is hydrogenated. Hydrogenation alters the natural configuration of the oils and produces trans fats, which have been linked to many detrimental health effects, including:
Tumor growth and metastasis
Inhibition of key metabolic enzyme reactions
Low birth weight in infants
Decreased testosterone in men
Prostate enlargement
Heart disease
Higher LDL and lower HDL
Excess glutamate-induced neuronal death
In part, due to the endorsement by the American Heart Association—even once putting its heart seal on margarine packages—consumption of margarine has increased in America. Believing official opinion and endorsements is not the wisdom that leads to health. 1 Townsend Letter

Sugar, Starch, and Cancer
New research conducted by Dr. Jan Hammarsten of Sweden, has shown that increases in insulin do not directly cause prostate cancer, but it does act as a stimulus for prostate and other cancers to grow and become more aggressive. During the study, if was found that the men with the most aggressive cancers measured the highest insulin levels. Monitoring of insulin was a good indicator of risk of death from cancer. Insulin is stimulated by dietary sugars, including the polysugars (starches) in all the grain-based dough products that serve as mainstay foods for most people today.2, 3 European Journal of Cancer

The Mandated Sex Vaccine for Children
Gardasil, the relatively new vaccine from Merck designed to prevent cervical cancer as caused by some strains of the human papillomavirus, is now being associated with thousands of reports of adverse effects. These range everywhere from wart outbreaks to death. The vaccine, in three doses, is intended for girls any time after the age of nine, but the whole series must be completed before they become sexually active to be effective against certain cervical cancers. Its effectiveness is advertised to last for just five years. This is a vaccine that will be guarded jealously: Merck took a great hit with pulling Vioxx off the market, and the lawsuits associated with it. Now Gardasil is Merck's most important new product, capable of generating as much as $3 billion in annual sales according to analysts -- well worth the millions spent in advertising campaigns. While the FDA is still calling Gardasil “safe and effective,” reports continue to stream in about the very painful injections themselves, which often cause vomiting and fainting at the time they’re administered, as well as numerous adverse effects (warts, chronic pain, chronic illness, seizures, blood clots, paralysis, up to 18 deaths…) seen in thousands of girls shortly after receiving the vaccine. Merck’s position is that these reports are unproven and just anecdotal, but the caveat emptor warning certainly applies here: Let the buyer beware.

Parents - think long and hard, after considering all the research you can get your hands on, before deciding. Certainly a celibate journey through the teen years is safer than this 2-year-old vaccine. But will parents or young women actually have the choice? An Internet search inputting “Gardasil” will provide hundreds of hours of reading and learning, some of it terrifying: Texas became the first state to mandate use of the cervical cancer vaccine when Governor Rick Perry signed an order requiring school-age girls to get the shot. Beginning in 2008, Texas girls aged 11 and 12 will have to receive the vaccine before entering sixth grade, and lawmakers are considering similar requirements in at least 20 other states, including Michigan, California, Oklahoma and New Jersey. It is draconian and insane to force citizens to have something of unknown long term safety injected into their bodies. AOL News

High Vitamin C Levels and High Vegetable Intake May Lower Stroke Risk
Researchers divided approximately 2000 people into four groups according to the levels of Vitamin C in their blood. The people in the lowest quarter of the group were at a 70% more risk of stroke than those in the highest. The participants who ate vegetables 6-7 times per week had a 58% less chance of a stroke compared to those who ate vegetables up to two times a week.4, 5 Stroke

Humans are unable to produce vitamin C as most animals do. That makes us vulnerable to a host of diseases since vitamin C is crucial in the formation of collagen, the structural glue of all tissue, including blood vessel walls. It is also crucial for immune strength, and antioxidant protection. Taking at least one to two grams of vitamin C through the course of the day (vitamin C has a short life in tissue) is smart medicine.

Effects Medication Has on Ability to Drive
Older drivers who are taking medications, have heart disease, arthritis or have had a stroke are more likely to become involved in a car accident. In 1996, researchers viewed driving records of over nine hundred adults over age 65 and found that 426 of them had been involved in crashes. This is a high risk group—to themselves and others—and there needs to be greater awareness of the problem. The assumption that everyone has a “right” to drive is not valid. Steroids Cause of Impaired Growth

In comparisons between inhaled steroid preparations and other treatment regimens in 600 children with asthma, the children treated with inhaled steroids had a 23-27% reduced growth in height over children receiving other forms of treatment. Inhaled steroid use may also impair the growth of other organs, such as the brain and lungs. The New England Journal of Medicine

Leg Circulation Improved By Walking

People who walk 3 or more times a week have slower progression of peripheral artery disease (PAD). PAD causes leg pain due to poor circulation. As many as 12 million people suffer from PAD but only a small percentage walk for exercise 3 or more times a week. Annals of Internal Medicine

Coffee Associated With High Blood Pressure

A Finnish study has determined that coffee drinkers increase their likelihood of having to start drug treatment to control high blood pressure. Hypertension risk increases whether you drink eight cups or one cup of coffee a day.

Eliminating coffee from daily consumption may also reduce the risk of the following health issues:
• Stomach cancer and leukemia
• Stroke
• Rheumatoid arthritis
• Loss of control of homocystine and cholesterol levels by inhibiting the action of folate, vitamin B12 or B6sub>.
• Raised stress hormone levels related to heart palpitations, jitters and nervousness

Fluoridation Halted – Cavities Decrease
Conventional dental and political wisdom has long held the belief that fluoridation helps prevent dental caries (cavities).
When several regions in the former East Germany halted the artificial fluoridation of their water, they braced themselves for an expected rise in tooth decay and caries. However, as it turns out, they needn’t have worried at all, since dental decay rates actually went down.
Researchers found that following the cessation of public water fluoridation, “a significant fall in caries prevalence was observed.” This trend corresponded to the national caries decline and appeared to be a new population-wide phenomenon. The cavity rates were coming down throughout Germany, irrelevant to whether or not the water is fluoridated.

• Researchers studied more than 15,000 children in the formerly fluoridated German towns of Spremburg and Zittau.
• Children have been examined repeatedly over the last 20 years.
• Caries levels for the 12-year-old children significantly decreased during the years 1993 through 1996.
The study supports the contention that caries prevalence may continue to fall after the reduction of fluoride concentration in the water supply drops from about 1 ppm to 0.2 ppm F. Yet another assumed and popular “truth” falls. 6 Community Dentistry and Oral Epidemiology

The Differences Between White and Dark Meat
Dark Meats are dark because they are muscles that are used more (drumsticks versus breast meat). Cooked dark meat has metmyoglobins which are very high in iron. Dark meat contains more zinc, riboflavin, niacin, thiamin, vitamins B6, B12, amino acids, and iron than white meat. It also contains more saturated fat along with Omega-3 and Omega-6 fats.

White meat contains glycogen which is an animal starch—a stored form of sugar. It is formed in the liver and broken down to glucose when needed by the white muscles.

Nutritionally, dark meat is better. But note that white meat—like sugar and starch (polysugar) products—is the preferred entrée. Our taste buds have become perverted and our health suffers as a result. Diet Blog
