Why Exercise Is Critical
If you think about it, life for dogs and cats is about motion. In the wild, creatures must escape predators, travel about to find a mate, and work hard and relentlessly to find food.
But think about how modern life has changed that for us and our pets. In our urban settings we have no predators lurking about, mates can be found on the Internet, and food simply sits in a restaurant or grocery store. We have become about as immobile as it is possible to become.
This departure from what is natural takes a tremendous toll on health. The body becomes what it is called upon to do. Sit on a couch; start to look like a couch. Exercise and work hard; look like an athlete.
Every disease is positively impacted by exercise. In medical studies of drugs, billions of dollars are spent to prove effectiveness. In almost every instance where the drug is measured against exercise, the drug loses-not to mention the dangerous side effects of drugs.
When the body is exercised it senses the need to stay fit and capable. It feels alive through the tests placed upon it. Not only is stamina increased, but reserve capacity and resistance to disease are increased. If we act dead by barely moving, then the body loses its resistance and easily succumbs to disease and death.
With regard to food, consider this. Food is the payment for exercise. In the wild we and our pets would starve if we did not expend considerable effort finding it. Therefore, in the natural order of things it is theft to take food without paying the price of exercise and physical work. The penalty for this theft is obesity and disease.
Proof of the powerful and safe effectiveness of natural therapies
Depression and Vitamin D
A study of adolescent children, diagnosed with moderate to severe depression, found that they were clinically deficient in vitamin D. The children were given 4000 IU of vitamin D for one month and then 2000 IU of vitamin D for the next two months. Along with psychotherapy and supportive counseling, significant improvements in mood swings, measure of depression, tiredness and concentration abilities were observed. Acta Paediatr. (See Wysong O-Mega D™)
Cancer and Vitamin C
Megadoses of vitamin C show promising results for patients with advanced cancer. Dr. Victor Marcial did a trial with 40 patients, giving them 40,000-75,000 mg of vitamin C intravenously several times a week. 75% of the patients had a tumor reduction rate of 50% or more. According to Dr. Marcial, vitamin C increases the benefits of radiation and chemotherapy and reduces the adverse effects. Orthomolecular (See Wysong Mega C™)
Diabetes and Almonds
A recent study showed that a diet containing 20% of energy from almonds significantly improves insulin resistance, and reduces cholesterol levels in prediabetic adults. Journal of the American College of Nutrition (See Wysong Choc-o-Nuts™ and Origins™)
Blood Pressure and Dark Chocolate
A randomly assigned study of patients with hypertension and cardiovascular damage, or diabetes, showed that consumption of 6 g per day of dark chocolate significantly reduced blood pressure. This suggests that the flavonols in dark chocolate have antihypertensive effects, even at small doses. American Journal of Hypertension (See Wysong Choc-o-Nuts™ and Chocolate Therapy™)
Pancreatic Cancer, Alpha Lipoic Acid and Naltrexone
Recent studies on patients with supposed incurable pancreatic cancer have shown positive results using a combined intravenous treatment of alpha lipoic acid (ALA, antioxidant nutrient) and low-dose Naltrexone (a narcotic antagonist). In fact, patients receiving the treatment experienced a total disappearance of the cancer and it didn’t return after a long-term follow-up. It is believed that these two substances work together to activate the immune system and increase immune cell activity. The dose is only 4.5 mg of naltrexone (can be compounded by a pharmacist for your doctor) along with the intravenous ALA starting at 100 mg per treatment (up to 600 mg if well tolerated). This is done twice weekly. Interg Cancer Ther (See Wysong Antioxidant Spectrum™)
Probiotics - Help lower lipid levels and improve cardiovascular health. Ann Med. (See Wysong Probiosyn™)
Antioxidants - Improve lung function in exercise-induced asthma. Respir Physiol Neurobiol. (See Wysong Antioxidant Spectrum™)
Vitamin D - High dose lowers markers of arterial stiffness. Dis Markers. (See Wysong O-Mega D™)
Calcium: Supplementation improves survival of critically ill patients. Springerplus. (See Wysong Optimal™)
Lutein/Zeaxanthin - Intake may reduce the risk of advanced AMD (age-related macular degeneration). JAMA Ophthalmol. (See Wysong Opthid™)

The Wysong Healthletter is now well into its third decade of continuous publication. It is offered free to help you make a better you and a better world.
I long ago came to realize that the most worthy role of any doctor is to teach people how not to need them. This led me away from practice where treating symptoms is the primary tool and a misinformed public has come to expect magic bullet cures. But no disease is ever caused by the lack of a drug, and no treatment—save that for trauma or defect—ever improves an organism. Medical intervention is, in fact, now the number one cause of death and suffering in our modern world.
Illness, in large part, comes from wrong thinking. Health requires an open-minded, fact-based philosophy of life and an ambition to make yourself the best you can be. Thoughtlessly following convention and laziness are irreconcilable with health.
Wellness requires a deep respect for the great unknowns of life and the power of natural healing forces. Pretending that we can command nature and that the body is a mere machine that can be manipulated with impunity by "experts" is an illusion of both professionals and the public.
So it is my hope that this newsletter will help you to take control of your own health destiny, trust the healing powers within and in nature, and understand that ultimately wellbeing is about what you do to yourself, not what someone else can do to you.
