The Wysong Healthletter is now well into its third decade of continuous publication. It is offered free to help you make a better you and a better world.
I long ago came to realize that the most worthy role of any doctor is to teach people how not to need them. This led me away from practice where treating symptoms is the primary tool and a misinformed public has come to expect magic bullet cures. But no disease is ever caused by the lack of a drug, and no treatment—save that for trauma or defect—ever improves an organism. Medical intervention is, in fact, now the number one cause of death and suffering in our modern world.
Illness, in large part, comes from wrong thinking. Health requires an open-minded, fact-based philosophy of life and an ambition to make yourself the best you can be. Thoughtlessly following convention and laziness are irreconcilable with health.
Wellness requires a deep respect for the great unknowns of life and the power of natural healing forces. Pretending that we can command nature and that the body is a mere machine that can be manipulated with impunity by "experts" is an illusion of both professionals and the public.
So it is my hope that this newsletter will help you to take control of your own health destiny, trust the healing powers within and in nature, and understand that ultimately wellbeing is about what you do to yourself, not what someone else can do to you.
(A non-profit educational, research, and philanthropic organization)
The purpose of the Institute is to help true victims, particularly children and animals, and make sure the dollars used go directly and efficiently to the point of need.
Where can we help?
If you know of a worthy cause that is managed by volunteers (no fat salaries to siphon off donations), please send details for us to consider. We have limited resources but if we like the cause and you can prove the money is used efficiently, we will certainly give consideration.
How you can help?
Any contribution to the Institute is tax deductible and is used virtually in its entirety for the philanthropic end. WysongInstitute.org
In a recent study in Australia, Chinese herbs were found to relieve menstrual cramps better than other treatments. The herbs also reduce recurrence of cramps over a three-month period. The herbs included Chinese angelica root, Szechuan lovage root, red peony root, white peony root, Chinese motherwort, and cinnamon bark.
The Chinese herbs were more effective than non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs), oral contraceptive pills, acupuncture, heat compressions, placebos, or no treatment at all. (See Menstruphen™) Cochrane Database of Systematic Reviews.
Probiotics and Diarrhea
Two strains of lactobacillus bacteria commonly found in yogurt can help ease bouts of severe diarrhea in children. Probiotics work by altering the microbial ecology in the digestive tract and cut the amount of time children with diarrhea spent in the hospital. Probiotic-treated children spent 1.6 days in the hospital, on average, versus 2.6 days for the patients given placebo. Children who received treatment within 60 hours of when their diarrhea began spent an average of 1.7 days in the hospital, versus 3.5 days for kids who received placebo within this time.
The research team also found that children given lactobacillus were less likely to show signs of infection with rotavirus, the leading cause of diarrhea in infants, than youngsters who did not receive the probiotic treatment. (See Probiosyn™) The Pediatric Infectious Disease Journal.
Anti-Inflammatory Drugs Damage Bones
Painkilling drugs (NSAIDs) may delay or prevent the healing of fractures of bones.
Over the last 20 years there have been multiple reports of impaired bone healing in patients taking NSAIDS.
The main concern is that the new generation of non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs block bone healing completely, as opposed to the older generation of NSAIDs (such as ibuprofen) that appear to have delayed healing by a few weeks. In tests involving Celebrex, none showed complete bone healing. Drugs such as Celebrex block the production of prostaglandins exclusively, which in turn inhibit bone healing. (See Arthegic™, Joint Complex™) Journal of Bone and Mineral Research.
Supplementation with long-chain omega-3 polyunsaturated fatty acids ameliorates depressive symptoms and improves quality of life in elderly women with depression.
Omega-3 fatty acids reduce oxidative stress in newborns. Oxidative stress results in various pathologic changes in response to excessive levels of cytotoxic oxidants and free radicals in the environment. At birth, newborns are exposed to an environment with increased oxygen bioavailability with greatly enhanced generation of free radicals.

Intestinal probiotics, particularly bacteria, play an important role in determining the digestive mechanisms and general health of all animals. An improper intestinal microbial balance, or the selective killing off of normal flora, may precipitate serious disease. The constant infusion of "friendly" organisms in the diet helps prevent the colonization of disease-producing bacteria such as Salmonella, E. coli, Shigella and others. Probiotic bacteria implant on the mucus coated walls of the intestine and prevent colonization of pathogenic or "unfriendly" microbes by competitive exclusion.

Improved Lipids Results after Reading Dr. Wysong's The Cholesterol Myth and Implementing Recommendations
"For about the last 6 months I have been eating according to Dr. Wysong's recommendations, NOT following the traditional limitations for 'good' lipid results that I have been trying to follow for years (a battle).
Attached below are results of my fasting blood chemistry tests from last April & last week. And WOW! I was frankly just amazed! Especially the Triglycerides, that's been my biggest nemesis for years, virtually no success at all decreasing those. My Drs are gonna flip!
Total cholesterol down 37
Triglycerides down 26
HDL down 2
LDL down 30
My ratio of total to HDL is 3.784
My ration of LDL to HDL is 2.2745
This has been the most positive change for my cardiovascular health in over 30 years!
I had given my doctors copies of the book when I ordered that dozen a while back, & now when I send them these results, if they haven't read it yet, I bet they will give it a look! I'm going to have to order more to give to several other people I know, backing up the philosophy with my results in black & white.
Just wanted to let you know the good news! And please let Dr. Wysong know."
Uretic™ Helps Prevent Urinary Problems and Seizures
"I am a long time fan and customer. I have a 13-year-old cat named Hambone who has a history of FLUTD...until your food came along…Over the years he has developed seizures and naturally I took him to the vet. Well, as good as the vet is, like every other doctor, they refer to the 'standard of care' and called it a brain tumor and put him on anti seizure meds…So, Wysong's Uretic dry food, no problem…I am wondering what it is about your food that causes him to not have seizures. Have you heard of this happening before? You guys rock."
"I am so excited about Wysong being in my store...yesterday, I ordered almost the full line of cat and dog food from PIJAC in Canada...can't wait to receive it and educate my customers...thanks again!"
"Thanks to you my ferrets' health has improved! Thank you."
Urine Problem Improved
"My cat (Ragdoll) is doing better with his food transition to Wysong, but he is still a bit constipated. (Doing the yogurt) I just got the Dream Treats…His urine has improved…and I am thankful for your great products!"
